With a 59– 21 victory Friday night over Chaminade, the Spartans captured their third consecutive Metro Catholic Conference football championship.
The Spartans took control of the game mid-way through the first half. With the score knotted at 14, senior quarterback Stephen Kaiser scored on a sneak play then tossed a 12-yard pass to Leon Moody to send De Smet to the locker room with a 28-14 advantage.
The Red Devils got to within seven early in the third quarter, but scoring drives on five of the next six possessions sealed the game, 59-21, and the conference crown for the Spartans.
Finding the end zone for De Smet were Durron Neal, Kaiser, Moody, Malcolm Agnew, David Hill and Bobby Lucks.The defense was led by Ryan Isom, Neal and Reid Spalding.
The Spartans are next in action 1:00 Saturday at Hazelwood West.
