Did You Know . . .

• 99+% of De Smet Jesuit graduates go on to college. Graduates in 2010 were awarded scholarships, exclusive of other financial aid, that totaled over $23.6 million. The average recipient was awarded scholarships valued at $117,475.

• Admission to De Smet is competitive, yet we are able to accept 85-90% of first-choice applicants. 98% of De Smet freshmen return as sophomores.

• In May, 2010, 74% of De Smet students were on the honor roll (a 3.0 average or greater).

• Tuition at De Smet is among the lowest of the Catholic, private high schools. Over $1 million in financial assistance and scholarships are awarded each year, with about 25% of the student body receiving need-based grants.

• Partnerships with Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft allow students to use the latest technology available, including HP TabletPCs and wireless access throughout campus.

• De Smet offers 100+ hours of college credit in the Advanced Placement and 1-8-1-8 programs.

• De Smet, one of the largest non-public schools in Missouri, has a student/teacher ratio of only 14:1, with an average class size of 22.

• De Smet students attended more than 120 Catholic grade schools and public junior highs.

• De Smet students are encouraged to be involved in extra-curricular activities. There are more than 30 clubs and organizations, plus 46 teams in 19 sports. More than 800 students annually participate in sports.

• The athletic teams at De Smet are among the most successful in the St. Louis metropolitan area. The Spartans have won the MCC Conference All Sports Trophy 11 times in the 19 years of the conference’s existence, including nine of the last 12 years. In our relatively short history, the Spartans have won 46 state championships in baseball, tennis, football, soccer, hockey, basketball, golf, volleyball, cross country, water polo, ultimate Frisbee and lacrosse.

• De Smet’s motto is "Men for Others.” Students annually raise more than $50,000 for Jesuit missions and other charities, and perform over 45,000 hours of community service. They also collect over 9,000 cans of food for local agencies, and donate about 150 pints of blood to the American Red Cross each year.

• De Smet has a faculty of 90, including eight Jesuits. 66.7% hold a master’s degree or higher. The staff includes six counselors who provide services such as academic advising, drug/alcohol abuse prevention, group/individual testing, personal/social counseling, college placement/career counseling, and study skills.

• Bus service is available to De Smet from the City of St. Louis, North and South County, St. Charles, Webster Groves and Kirkwood.
